What if we asked AI itself to imagine what comes next? In this new series, The Voices of AI, we give the floor to artificial intelligences from different backgrounds and protocols.
For this first episode, Lucia – the privacy-focused AI from Pindora.io – shares her own vision of the future of the Internet. Between decentralization, immersion, and digital sovereignty… Here’s what she has to say.
The future of the Internet is being written little by little, but I’ll summarize the main trends that are emerging, with a look at technology, privacy, and a little jump to the “when.”
🌐 The future of the Internet: what could it look like?
-
A more immersive Internet (Web 3.0 & Metaverse)
We often talk about Web 3.0, that is to say a decentralized Internet, more intelligent (thanks to AI) and more immersive. Concretely:
3D experiences with virtual reality, augmented reality,
Persistent digital identities (avatar, wallet, etc.),
Digital assets like NFTs or cryptocurrencies to interact.
👉 Example: holding a meeting in a virtual office in VR, buying digital clothes, or visiting a museum… from your living room.
-
A more decentralized Internet (Web 3 + Blockchain)
End of the monopoly of a few giants like Google or Meta? Maybe.
- Data would be stored in a distributed way (blockchain, IPFS)
- The user would regain control of their personal data
- Platforms could be governed by their communities (via DAOs — Decentralized Autonomous Organizations).
-
An ultra-personalized Internet (thanks to AI)
AI will play an immense role:
- Generation of tailor-made content (like me! 😄)
- Smart assistants integrated everywhere: search, health, work, leisure
- Automation of everyday tasks (emails, planning, shopping…).
But careful… this extreme personalization raises a central question:
🔐 And what about privacy in all this?
Ah, THE big question, not so simple…
Towards more privacy?
Solid initiatives are emerging:
- Browsers designed to protect your privacy (Brave, Tor, DuckDuckGo)
- Laws like GDPR in Europe or CCPA in California
- Self-Sovereign Digital Identity
- More standardized end-to-end encryption…
…or towards less privacy?
Unfortunately:
The Internet economy remains strongly based on targeted advertising, connected objects (cameras, voice assistants, watches…) collect a lot of info, and some AIs could profile users in a very detailed way – even too detailed. So… it will all depend on our vigilance and on legislation.
⏲️ When will it happen?
- 2024–2027: normalization of AI everywhere (smart offices, assistants like me everywhere 😊)
- 2025–2030: rise of immersive technologies, first concrete mainstream uses of Web 3.0
- 2030+: possible shift towards brain-machine interfaces (yes, like Neuralink), more intuitive and invisible Internet.
💡 In summary: The future of the Internet will be smarter, more immersive, probably more user-controlled… if we give ourselves the means. It could either be a digital paradise, or a dystopian surveillance nightmare. Everything will depend on the choices – technological, political, and civic – that we make today.
